Ok people
So my laptop went to 'laptop heaven' last week. Actually I think it may have gone to the other place as I was not happy with the fact that it decided to just 'black screen' me. To be honest I think it was rather ungrateful to just leave me like that. It had never been mistreated. And it was only 3 years old. DH basically said "I told you Dell was !&%$". Yes, ok, whatever. But although I love my iPhone and my iPad I refuse to use a Macbook! Fortunately I was able to back up the most important stuff. And my supervisor agreed that I could use grant funding for a new one as I use it for work! Yay! So the IT guys are currently sorting out something for me. Basically I need it to be light and portable so I can use it on my long commute. The IT guy did not seem impressed when I asked if I could get a 'pretty colour'. It seems I cannot unfortunately. I just don't understand why he didn't realise the importance of a cute laptop. But to cut a long story short I decided that I would get a pretty laptop case instead! Here are the best options from the internet in my humble opinion.
The above offering from Not on the High Street for £66 is lovely and vintage looking. However I think the colours are a bit too subdued for me.
Orla Kiely always has the most beautiful designs. This is quirky and lovely but I think at £77 it is too expensive for what it is.
Ah I love Boden and this spots design is just the thing to cheer me up on a cold, dark, winter's morning. It is quite reasonably priced at £22. There is another version in a more subdued, floral pattern (i.e. not me).
I think Cath Kidston is great although I don't own anything by her brand. This sleeve only cost £26 and is actually quite lovely.
Here is another offering by Cath Kidston for the same price. It is quite quirky as well but I think I may tire of the stars after a while.
So I haven't ordered any of these as yet. I would be interested to know which of the contenders is your favourite. Please share in the comments. Also if you have any other recommendations for laptop sleeves for 13' screens then let me know too!
Enjoy your day.

again i´m very sorry for you laptop. but a new one for free (or?)... why not. and even the it guy don´t choose one for the colour he shurely picks one with acceptable performance.
and i love the first cases. i´m very into this whole vintage style at the moment! and i really have no idea what to wear with the coloured ones ;)
The Cath Kidson birdie gets my vote. The pattern is cheerfyl, but not in an in your face Pollyana/Taylor Swift bubble gum kind of way.
As for recommendations, the "Bio Infectious" sleeve in here is a cheeky nod to your being a Public Health doctor ;oP :

I had something similar to this, which I rebelliously lugged to a male-dominated conference:

And of course, there's something like this, if only we should all be so lucky:

It comes in the 13.3, btw.
I recommend Etsy for cute or chic handmade sleeves, but their quality varies greatly. just make sure to buy a sleeve that has extra padding on the edges, because from experience, that's where most of the damage to laptops occur when they're sloshing around in your bag.
XOXO,

I bought mine from Etsy. Their site is pure eye-candy and the quality of every item that I have purchased has been exceptional.... happy shopping x
Also - think about if you need handles on the laptop bag - a pet hate of mine as so many don't have them which makes them very 'slippy' and difficult to hold outside of a bag.
I'm watching this carefully as I am currently in the same position - however my experience with Dell has been overwhelmingly positive and I wouldn't buy anything else (other than a mac which is too expensive for me to move to because I'd have to re-buy some specialist software I use). I've had Dell for probably 15 years and always buy their 3 or 4 year on-site next day support.
I'd be interested to know what 'bag' you carry your laptop in? I have a professional laptop case with plenty of room for cables etc as my trips are usually longer, but it is boring black.
Somewhere I've seen stick on covers for the back of a laptop screen that you apply yourself to 'brighten' them up and make them a little more colourful.
I will have a search around.

Ooh bad times on crashing laptop so frustrating especially as it isn't that old - reminds me I must back mine up and soon!!!
I like the Knomo range - they do bags and sleeves and are fabulous quality and come in some lovely textures and colours like this one http://www.knomobags.com/uk/women/laptop-sleeves/15-inch/slim-medium-laptop-case-15-purple.html/
Can't wait to see which one you go for

My computer seemed to completely die a few days ago too, it was so annoying but luckily I have a new laptop now. I love those cases, especially the cath kidston ones!

Thanks Ninjij. I can't wait for it to arrive. Currently I am using DH's very old IBM at home and it is quite frustrating as it opens pdf's erratically and seems to confuse word and excel documents :-( I realised that the vintage one can fit a 15' screen so I will need a smaller case.
Ah Unchecked Other, thanks for all of your links and recommendations.T The Bioinfectious one would be quite tongue in cheek but isn't pretty enough.I love the janine King one in the list and the farm tree one is very cute too! Of course I love the mulberry but I wont splash the cash on a laptop sleeve! Great choices though :-)
Globetrotting and Unchecked other,I hadn't thought of Etsy but will definitely look there. Good tip!
Alison I want to fir my laptop in my bag (it should fit in my Bayswater) so I will probably not get handles. I used to swear by Dell as it was all I used back in Trinidad and my first laptop in the UK.
Unfortunately the Latitude is a real disappointment. I had my inspiron for 6 years and gave it away when I got the latitude :-( My department supports Toshiba so that is what I will get. Not planning on a separate laptop bag as yet but will let you know if I change my mind.
Thanks for the links Steve :-)
Loulou I am loving the purple Knomo (I am so predictable). I will need to investigate sizewise just to be sure it can fit in my bag :-)
Sarah I hate when technology lets me down! I am looking forward to getting my new laptop too. Which laptop did you get?
beautiful bags <3 I love the first one :)
Paperchase is quite good for bright bold laptop cases, though the range is pretty limited. And many have handles or detachable straps :) x

It would take you months to see everythign on that case ;-)
but out of the ones above i LOVE the bird case from Cath Kidston ;-) xxx
I bought one for mine a few weeks ago - I went for one of the liberty for Apple ones from the Apple store and I love it :-) it was £45 incl. Delivery which is quite steep but I love it and I've used it so many times already!
