What's on my Kindle 25/03/12: A game of thrones

Imag
I love fantasy books. I loved Lord of the Rings. And I dragged DH to the cinema to see Harry Potter (although he is not really a fan). Since the last movie and book I have not found a fantasy novel to replace any of those. Yes I eagerly await The Hobbit but I read the book ages ago. Then DH introduced me to A Song of Ice and Fire as he watched the HBO series. I found the series way too graphic for my taste. But I have just finished reading book 1- A Game of Thrones in the series and I am totally hooked!!

Now the world created by George RR Martin is not for the faint hearted, This book is the Lord of Rings on steroids......... and for adults...... and there is no holding back. The story is narrated by a series of Point of View (POV) characters which I think makes it all the more interesting. Although there are some characters I prefer to others it is still so useful to see the same events from different perspectives. The use of magic (which tends to be the key of fantasy books) is also quite limited which makes the story seem all the more realistic.

I am so looking forward to reading the rest of the novels in the series (the author is currently writing Book 6 out of a proposed 7 or possibly 8 books). In my excitement I have downloaded Books 1-4 although DH is trying to ban me from reading the rest while I am in Singapore (I shall ignore him hehe). I don't want to give away any of the plot but I would highly recommend this book. It is exciting, full of political intrigue and the human characters really come to life. It is also unusual in having a dwarf who is actually human (and not part of a different species) and he is one of the best characters in the book.

So my lovelies I would easily give this book 5/5 hearts. If you have read the book or watched the series please share your opinion in the comments.

Have a wonderful day!

Watched this on TV and it is a brilliant series. My OH has been reading the books and he reckons the book follows the series very well. I don't have time to read it at the moment, but as I loved Lord of the Rings etc I'm sure I'd love it, so one for the future.

I think the world knows how I feel about the series.

Shu and Alison, all the significant others seem to love the series! My DH insists it is the plot although I beg to differ!
;-)

LJ it is really good. I can't wait to read the rest of the books.

Trininista I went back and looked for your review. We in the UK are always behind once waiting for DVD. It is funny that people got so angry over what happened to Sean Bean's character. And you are right, the family Starks are quite hot too.
